And the winners are …
From these 13, eight were named 'The Outstanding Building of the Year' in their respective categories. Awards Committee Member Mark Huston announced the winners:
These properties will advance to the Regional level where their competition will come from buildings located in Chicago, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. Regional winners will be honored and the International TOBY Awards will be announced during the BOMA International Conference in Philadelphia in June. BOMA/Suburban offers Foundations of Real Estate Management
The industry has spoken and BOMA has answered. The demand for practical, core commercial real estate management education for entry-level and up-and-coming property professionals is hotter than ever. BOMA/Suburban Chicago is meeting this demand with the delivery of BOMA International's Foundations of Real Estate Management, a comprehensive introduction course to commercial real estate. The program covers topics in the areas of administration and management, building systems and operations, accounting and reporting, and contract administration. For more information, click here.
BOMA/Suburban Chicago honored for communication excellence and innovation
The winner in the Marketing Communications category was BOMA/Boston for their Emerging Professionals Blueprint Success Series to attract the next generation of leaders in the industry, and the winner in the Communications Management category was BOMA/San Francisco for their Earth Awards Program entry, which recognized achievements of BOMA member buildings in implementing environmentally sustainable practices in their properties while communicating these actions to local businesses, government and San Francisco residents. Two local associations were also given honorable mentions, one to BOMA/Houston in the Communications Management category for their BOMA/IREM Golf Tournament, and the other to BOMA/Atlanta in the Electronic & Interactive Communications category for their legislative alert emails. “These BOMA local associations have shown outstanding leadership and innovation in developing and implementing these communication programs,” said BOMA International 2007-2008 Chair and Chief Elected Officer Brenna Walraven, managing director, national property management, USAA Real Estate Company. “Not only do their programs add value for their members, they also strengthen the BOMA organization and the industry as whole.”
BOMA/Suburban Chicago accepts 7-Point Challenge
In an effort to further promote "green" and sustainable practices in the suburban Chicago office and commercial real estate market, the Board of Directors of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Suburban Chicago voted to accept BOMA International's "Market Transformation Plan and 7-Point Challenge."
"This Challenge is designed to encourage our industry to voluntarily address energy and environmental issues," explains Executive Director Patricia Schwarze. "BOMA/Suburban Chicago is well-positioned to accept this challenge from BOMA International and we are excited about it and the effect we can and will have on our environment, buildings, and tenants." BOMA/Suburban Energy Chairman Bruce Larson adds, "Everyone has the ability to save energy and positively impact the environment at home or in the workplace. Accepting BOMA/International's 7-Point Challenge is just the right thing to do."
BOMA/Suburban Golf Outing goes "green"
The Building Owners and Managers Association of Suburban Chicago went "green" at their annual golf outing on May 22 at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton. "With environmental issues gaining momentum, it seemed only natural to look at ways to make our social, networking events "green" as well," says Executive Director Patricia Schwarze. "BOMA/Suburban Chicago will be the first to partner with Cantigny's 'green initiatives' and host a 'green' golf outing there."
Cantigny and BOMA/Suburban Chicago worked with SCARCE on ways to make the outing environmentally friendly, including paperless e-invitations, an option for golfers to walk the course instead of using carts, environmentally friendly give-aways, and a hybrid car for the hole-in-one prize. SCARCE conducted a "waste audit" of the event to explore options for minimizing waste during golf outings.
