BOMA/Suburban Chicago accepts 7-Point Challenge

In an effort to further promote "green" and sustainable practices in the suburban Chicago office and commercial real estate market, the Board of Directors of the Building Owners and Managers Association of Suburban Chicago voted to accept BOMA International's "Market Transformation Plan and 7-Point Challenge."

"This Challenge is designed to encourage our industry to voluntarily address energy and environmental issues," explains Executive Director Patricia Schwarze.  "BOMA/Suburban Chicago is well-positioned to accept this challenge from BOMA International and we are excited about it and the effect we can and will have on our environment, buildings, and tenants."  BOMA/Suburban Energy Chairman Bruce Larson adds, "Everyone has the ability to save energy and positively impact the environment at home or in the workplace.  Accepting BOMA/International's 7-Point Challenge is just the right thing to do."

BOMA/Suburban Chicago teams

with USGBC to host LEED-EB event

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Suburban Chicago is teaming with the West Cook/DuPage Branch of the Chicago Chapter of the U.S. Green Buildings Council to host a LEED for Existing Buildings event at the BP office campus in Warrenville on May 28.  For BOMA, this will be the kick off for a series of three half-day seminars to be offered this year with in-depth information about LEED for Existing Buildings.

USGBC and BOMA International, in a Memorandum of Intent signed earlier this year, have agreed to work cooperatively to promote commercial real estate that is healthy, environmentally responsible, comfortable, productive, profitable, and sustainable by more efficiently using limited resources and by sharing information.  Both have agreed to work together to cross promote sustainable initiatives among their membership profiles.

BOMA/Suburban Golf Outing goes "green"

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Suburban Chicago announced they are going "green" at their annual golf outing on May 22 at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton.  "With environmental issues gaining momentum, it seemed only natural to look at ways to make our social, networking events "green" as well," says Executive Director Patricia Schwarze.  "BOMA/Suburban Chicago will be the first to partner with Cantigny's 'green initiatives' and host a 'green' golf outing there."

Cantigny and BOMA/Suburban Chicago are working with SCARCE on ways to make the outing environmentally friendly, including paperless e-invitations, an option for golfers to walk the course instead of using carts, environmentally friendly give-aways, and a hybrid car for the hole-in-one prize.  SCARCE will conduct a "waste audit" of the event to explore options for minimizing waste during golf outings.
